Fayoum University (FU) (Arabic: جامعة الفيوم, Jame'at al-fayoum) is a public university located in the Egyptian city of Al Fayoum in northern Egypt. From 1976 to 2005, Fayoum University was a public institution within the University of Cairo. In August 2005, it was established as an independent campus with 2,000 faculty members and enrollment of about 25. 000 students. The city of Fayoum is an oasis located approximately 63 miles southwest of Cairo and is noted for its agricultural production and tourism.

In 1975, the Faculty of Education in Fayoum was established as one of the faculties affiliated to Cairo University. In 1976, the Faculty of Agriculture in Fayoum was established and the Faculty of Engineering was established in 1981. In 1983, a presidential decree was issued considering Fayoum as an independent campus of Cairo University.
The presidential decree No. 48 of 2005 established Fayoum University. Then, the presidential decree No. 193 of 2005 was issued to establish Faculties of Medicine and Archeology. Professor Galal M. Said was appointed President of Fayoum University in 2005. In 2008 Professor Ahmed El Gohary took office. Following El Gohary's resignation in 2011, Professor Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab was elected head of Fayoum University.
Fayoum University offers undergraduate programs and graduate programs, as well as open education opportunities via its 14 faculties.
The university includes 14 faculties; Education, Agriculture, Engineering, social Work, Dar Al UloomArabic and Islamic Studies, Science, Tourism and Hotels, Specific Education, Archeology, Medicine, Arts, Computer and Information Sciences, Early Childhood Education as well as Nursing.
There are 1800 faculty members and assistants teaching 25,000 students.
One campus is situated on an area of 50 feddans and is located in El-Gamaa area. A new campus is sited on an area of 100 feddans in Kom Oshim Zone in the north of Fayoum. The University Administration building includes offices of the president and his vice-presidents and the Great Celebration Hall as well as Dormitories, Central Printing Press, Central Restaurant and Medical department. As of 2009 some buildings are under construction: a dormitory for female students and a new building attached to Faculty of Tourism and Hotels will be continued and the preparation of University Hospital and its specialized centers will be finished. Regular operations of the development of University Hospital and buildings of Archeology and Specific Education faculties will be done and lands allocated to the university on Qaroon Lake will be made use of in making university construction and activities on an area of 32,000 square meters to serve the tourism sector in Fayoum. Finally, the general site will be designed for the future extensions on an area of 100 feddans in the north of Kom Oshim zone.
The Division of Student Affairs provides essential student services and facilitates relevant student programs. FU students come from diverse backgrounds and the University is committed to enhancing student dialogue and democratic discussions, as well as promoting cultural and educational extra-curricular activities.
All student activities are coordinated by the annually-elected Student Union. The University also hosts a number of high-profile literati and glitterati in addition to organizing cultural seasons, conferences, seminars and symposia.

Students have a choice of housing options. An in-campus dormitory is located about 2 mintues from the campus. Also, there are two dorms devoted to female students.
With its full capacity of 350 beds, the Fayoum University Hospital renders top-notch medical services to the citizens of Fayoum. It is also a center for educational and medical services.
Fayoum university is a state-owned campus administrated by a president assisted by three vice-presidents.
